But the darkness meets a brand new dawn
I’m feeling real good so I wrote me a song.

But I know just what to do.

Now it’s time to leave this place
I’m goin’ my own way.
I won’t even leave a trace
and I don’t care what they say.
They tell me I should take my dream
and put it on the shelf.
And find a wife, have kids that scream
before I’ve even found myself.

I’ve done my time, I’ve had enough
I’ve learned their ways, I’ve done my best.
This life they have is mean and rough
Yet it's just one, so let’s try the rest.

I won’t let them bring me down
with booze or all their goss.
They can keep all that in town
When I leave it’s not my loss.

I am but a simple gruff
who tries all kinds of things.
But to load myself with useless stuff
would surely clip my wings.
They say tradition is what I need

But nuthin’ in life is guaranteed
So I might as well run free.

I thank my God that I’ll move on
I’m so glad that I’ve kept my soul.
It’s been hard, but when I’m gone
I’ll know I beat this big black hole.

On the road is where I belong

Sometimes when my dreams come true
they don’t go as I planned-
Like coming here to a place so blue
where I had to take a stand.

At least my life’s in travel mode
So everything’s O.K.

I see the world with open eyes
