Another day is done
of just wearing out my shoes.
I've passed by a million faces
from a million different places
But nothing new is news.

I'm a king of wishful thinking
and I wish for something more.
I can dig all her high-tech
and her semi-weekly check
But there's more worth living for.

Sometimes when my chin is up or my head is hangin' down
the feeling will play me like a song.
Something about this whole place -with a spirit all her own-
gives me pause before I trek along.

Another day will come
which could outshine the last.
I've taught well and I've learned
I've been soothed and burned

but I know that's best for me
She's small and big enough

Her shiny glass and faded bricks
all standing side-by-side
Her dark blue skies and the buzz of youth

and I catch myself marveling
at what's happening out there.
